CIC-Vancouver: Terrorism and the Security/Privacy Conundrum

CIC Vancouver cordially invites you to our upcoming October event: “Terrorism and the Security/Privacy Conundrum”, with a special presentation by John Adams. Mr. Adams, Canada’s foremost authority on cyber security, will present at an afternoon reception on October 30, 2013 on the topic "Terrorism and the Security/Privacy Conundrum". John Adams will speak about present cyber security concerns and outline the role of the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), Canada’s cyber security agency, which he chaired from 2005 until his retirement in 2012.
This event will take place at the Law Courts Inn (Law Courts Building, 800 Smithe Street) on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, from 5-7pm, with registration beginning at 4:30pm. Tickets are for members, for non-members, and for student members. Refreshments will be served and there will be a cash bar.
This event promises to be an insightful look into the concerns, needs, and solutions for threats to cyber security, describing its impact on our lives and activities in business, government, banking, finance, and public safety.
Speaker's biography
Mr. Adams has recently retired from over 50 years of military and public service, the final seven years as Chief of the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), Canada's cybersecurity agency.
A Chemical Engineering graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada in Chemical Engineering, was a Rhodes Scholar receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oxford University, and also a graduate of the Canadian Army Staff College and National Defence College. Mr Adams completed a distinguished military career, retiring as a Major-General, then, joining the Public Service of Canada, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister (Infrastructure and Environment) in National Defence and thence to the Fisheries and Oceans, ultimately as Associate Deputy Minister and Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard before becoming Chief of the Communications Security Establishment Canada.
